Maintenance of Stainless Steel Tower-Supported Chimneys in Special Environments

For stainless steel tower-supported chimneys, in addition to routine maintenance in general environments, particular attention must be paid to inspections when operating in special environments. The following are key maintenance priorities:

1. Highly Corrosive Environments

Select 316L stainless steel material (containing molybdenum), or apply a coating of ZS-1041 flue gas anti-corrosion paint to the inner wall of the chimney. This coating is heat-resistant up to 600°C and effectively resists corrosion from acidic gases such as H₂S.

Install sulfur dioxide sensors to monitor flue gas corrosion levels in real-time, and promptly adjust the desulfurization process if levels exceed established limits.

2. Severe Cold Regions

During winter shutdowns, drain any accumulated water from inside the chimney to prevent cracking caused by freezing expansion.

Apply thermal insulation to the exterior of the chimney to minimize the temperature difference between the interior and exterior, thereby preventing structural deformation caused by thermal expansion and contraction.

3. Coastal Regions

Increase inspection frequency to twice per week, focusing specifically on assessing the extent of corrosion on the stainless steel surfaces caused by salt spray.

Utilize 316L stainless steel material and periodically apply a salt-spray-resistant anti-corrosion coating.

4. Emergency Response

Flue Gas Leakage: If a leak is detected at a chimney connection joint, immediately shut down operations for inspection and repair; replace the sealing gasket or perform re-welding as necessary.

Structural Deformation: If the deviation from vertical alignment exceeds established standards, immediately cease use of the chimney; repair the structure by installing additional supports or by realigning the support tower.

Fire Hazards: If spontaneous combustion of carbon deposits occurs inside the chimney, immediately shut down the boiler, purge the chimney with nitrogen gas to extinguish the fire, and subsequently thoroughly clean out all internal carbon deposits.
